Storm Week Recap: Owego and Quinney Invite. Plus VALLEY WEEK

Last week capped off one of the strangest weeks we have ever experienced. For the majority of the week, many of our athletes did not have any power. Our dual meet against Owego that was scheduled for Tuesday was postponed to Thursday. We did not find out until Thursday morning that we were officially having the meet. Our athletes responded in great fashion. The girls team defeated Owego 88-44. Gianna Lawrence won 4 events on the day (100H, Long Jump, Triple Jump, High Jump) and inched closer to Michelle Grady’s career points record. Both 4x8 and 4x1 teams were victorious as well. Other individual event winners included Pipher Reid (1500m, 800m), Angelina Schultz (400m), Aubrey Bough (Shot Put, Discus), Kathryn White (Pole Vault). The boys were defeated by Owego 85-55. Individual event winners included Thomas (TK) Kapinus (110H), Ethan Austin (100m), Liam Wood (3200m), Dubbs Haqq (Triple Jump), Ethan Vaseleck (High Jump). Pipher has moved into 9th all time in points, Audra Ackerson has moved into 38th, and Quinn Sirgany has moved into 43rd. Dubbs has moved into 18th all time.

Less than 48 hours later, we traveled to Sidney for the Quinney Invitational. Most of the schools that attended were Class C schools that we will be competing against at sectionals. The girls had a great day finishing third overall with 71 points. The day got off to a great start with the 4x8 team of Delaney Wood, Quinn Sirgany, Audra Ackerson, and Kathryn White winning the event. Alaina Gumble kept things rolling by making the finals in the 100m and later on taking 2nd in the finals. Her time ties her for 4th all time in school history in the 100m. Pipher Reid broke 5 minutes in the 1500m and finished 2nd in the event while Brendan Heaney finished 4th in the 1600. Angelina Schultz and Alyssa Denton both ran 1:15 in the 400m while Carmine Gross ran 58 with Walker Paske running 60 flat. Thomas Kapinus ran 1:11 in the 400H while in the race of the day Audra Ackerson demonstrated outstanding closing speed to win the 400H right at the finish line. Quinn notched her second victory of the day by winning the 3K and Delaney finished 4th. The 4x4 team of Kendell Little, Mari Pourby, Alyssa Denton, and Pipher finished 3rd.

The day of great performances continued in the field. Mari finished 5th in High Jump while Ethan Vaseleck finished 3rd. Kathryn White finished 2nd in the Pole Vault while Dubbs finished 2nd in Triple Jump with Ethan who finished 5th. Naheim Weaver and Dustin Jump threw PR’s in Discus while Walker Paske threw a PR in Shot Put. Lauren Paske threw PR’s in both Shot Put and Discus.

This coming week we have the CV dual meet home at 5 on Wednesday. Friday we head to Vestal for the Golden Bear Relays at 4. Senior night will be May 3rd the following week at 5pm.
