NY/PA and Norwich Dual Recap

The Forks Track and Field 2022 campaign launched this past Saturday at Windsor for the NY/PA Invitational. Traditionally, this is one of the largest invitationals that takes place in our section and this year was no exception. The brisk 28 degree day kicked off with Pipher Reid and Quinn Sirgany splashing their way to 1st and 5th place finishes in the 2K Steeplechase! Following the Steeplechase, the hurdles kept the team points flowing with a 3rd place finish from Gianna Lawrence and a 5th place performance from Thomas “TK” Kapinus. Next on the track, 100M runners Kara Condon, Alison Dell, Ethan Austin, and Carmine Gross braved the cold to kick off the season for our sprinters. In the 1500m, Audra Ackerson and Delaney Wood ran under six minutes and it was Delaney’s first time breaking the six minute barrier. Shaylee Meier and Angelina Schultz finished off the day on the track for us in the 400M recording great performances as well.

Sadly, due to an officiating blunder, our 4x100 team of Walker Paske, Carmine, Lucas McPeak, and Dubbs Haqq was placed into different lanes due to one official changing the lane assignments and not alerting anyone else. Having the officials put you in different lanes makes the 4x100 very difficult, but our guys did well handling the unfortunate situation.

In the field, our jumpers and vaulters performed equally as well. Dubbs made the finals in Long Jump while Kathryn White placed 2nd in Pole Vault. Naheim Weaver, Cameron O’Brien, and Ayla Lawrence all had impressive performances in the throws in their first varsity meets.

Tuesday we went to Norwich for a non league dual meet. This was a chance for us to try some athletes out in new events before our league meets begin. Gianna, Alaina Gumble, Kara, Grace Harkness, Quinn, Delaney, and Mari Pourby all won individual events for the girls while Alaina, Kara, Gianna, Alison, Grace, Audra, Pipher, Quinn and Aubrey Bough all ran on winning relay legs! The girls Sprint Medley team of Grace, Audra, Gianna, and Pipher broke the school record that has stood since 2004! Gianna is now 40 points away from the all time points record. The boys team was led by Dubbs 1st place finish in the Long Jump and TK’s 1st place finish in the 110H. The boys 4x100 had a much better experience by being placed in the correct lane.

Our first podcast episode of the season was released and can be listened to at The CF Exchange Zone as well as on Spotify and Apple podcasts. Feel free to text or email us (groovern@cforks.org) feedback or questions or anything else you would like us to talk about on the podcast.
