Meet Recap: Owego Dual

Forks Track headed to Owego High School for an extremely rare Monday dual meet. Collectively, we made the decision with the Owego coaches to give the athletes a chance to do some out of the box events at this meet. This provided athletes to double in some events they normally would not be able to as well as trying some events for the first time.

The meet kicked off in style with Kathryn White winning the 1500. This set the tone for a day of extremely good performances on the track and in the field for both the boys and the girls. Next on the track, Gianna Lawrence earned the first of her four victories by winning the 100M Hurdles. She went on to win Long and Triple Jump as well as a leg on the winning 4x200 relay team. Following the hurdles, Alyssa Denton won her first varsity individual event running 14.5 in the 100 with Alison Dell adding a 2nd place time of 14.6. The 4x200 team of Alison, Alyssa, Audra Ackerson, and Gianna finished first with a time of 2:01.6, just missing the All Time Top Ten by .2 seconds. Next on the track we saw our first school record of the year go down. Pipher Reid ran 7:26.2 winning the race and breaking Sarah Krizan’s ten year old school record. Quinn Sirgany added a time of 8:52.5 placing her 9th all time. Following the steeple, the Alaina Gumble and Angelina Schultz placed first and second in the 400. Shortly after, Angelina doubled back to take third place in the 200 joining Alison and Alyssa to complete the sweep in the event. In the final event on the track, the 4x800 Steeple team of Alaina, Quinn, Audra, and Pipher placed first with a time of 12:38.8 placing them fourth all time. Joining Gianna as victors in the field, Anna Hillis won Discus and Lauren White won Pole Vault. The girls defeated Owego 75-43 improving to 5-1 on the season.

On the boys side, Thomas “TK” Kapinus recorded the first victory of the day for the boys with a time of 20.7 in the 100H. TK once again pulled off the hurdle sweep winning the 400H in 1:12.5. Anthony Schultz made his debut in the 100 running a scorching fast 12.2 to finish 2nd. Carmine Gross and Tommy Hillis added 2nd and 3rd place finishes in the 200 with Connor Little also placing 2nd in the 2K Steeple. The 4x200 team of Tommy, Dubbs, Josh Nickerson, and Carmine placed first with a time of 1:46.2. In the field, Ethan Howell recorded another Shot Put and Discus double winning both events. Cooper Confer added a third place in Shot Put while Bennett Howell and Cooper joined Ethan to sweep the Discus. Speaking of sweeps, the horizontal jumpers joined the throwers to help Forks domination in the field. Dubbs, Tommy, and Aiden Hopkins swept the Triple Jump and Dubbs also won Long Jump. Owego edged the boys 76-56.

This weekend’s meet will continue an abnormal week for us as the meet will consist of field events only. The only athlete on the track this weekend will be Pipher running a 3K in Rochester that she qualified for by running 10:38 earlier in the season. Next week we will be back on a normal schedule hosting Vestal on Tuesday.
