Meet Recap: Broome County Championship
This ties a bow on the most unique cross country season in CFXC history! Normally, the season concludes with the Sectional Championship with races divided by class. This year due to Covid Protocols, we were forced to split the races by county and calculate the Sectional results based on time. We also ran on a brand new course. Every year, the Sectional Championship is held on the golf course at Chenango Valley State Park. Due to this season being in the spring, we were forced to use the other side of the park. Alumni would have been very familiar with this new course because it was largely made up of our old home course.
The day kicked off with the boys race. Due to some confusion, the majority of the boys took a wrong turn in the first mile of the race. Due to this, the sectional coordinators made their best guesses at calculating how much time this added on. Despite the confusion, Brendan Heaney finished 14th in the Broome County race. Jake and Lucas joined Brendan in finishing the year on a high note.
The girls race resulted in top notch performances for our team. Pipher won the Broome County race with ease running by herself after a conservative first half mile. She also ran the fastest Class C time of the day winning her 2nd consecutive Sectional Championship and staying undefeated at Chenango Valley State Park. Her 18:59 time is a new 5K PR for Pipher. Audra made a major move up the Section IV rankings recording a 9th place finish in the Broome County race which also resulted in the 9th fastest Class C time. Alaina and Gabe has strong finishes to conclude a great season for CFXC. We will be setting lofty goals for next fall!
