The girls record their highest ever finish at the STAC Meet while several boys finish on the podium and record big PR’s!
This past Saturday, the STAC Championship was contested for the first time in over 1,000 days. It ended up being a day full of great performances for our athletes. On the girls side, we had several accomplishments that were a first in program history. The second place overall finish was the highest we have ever had a team place at the STAC Championship! The girls finished 2nd with 50 points. The girls 4x800 team of Pipher Reid, Audra Ackerson, Grace Harkness, and Quinn Sirgany captured the first relay title in program history!
Those were not our only highlights. After the girls championship in the 4x8, Gianna Lawrence was crowned champion in the 100H. Shortly after, Alaina Gumble qualified for the 100M finals. Alaina also qualified for the 200M finals later in the meet. This is a rare feat that has not been done by a boy or girl at Chenango Forks since 2001 with Melissa Mills (we think). We are in the process of seeking confirmation.
The boys also got off to a very hot start as well. The 4x800 team of Brendan Heaney, Zephan Tompkins, Liam Wood, and Connor Little made their way on to the podium placing 6th. Zephan then came back and ran broke 56 seconds in the 400 to run a big PR. This is the fastest time we have had a freshman boy run at Chenango Forks since Mark Bartlet in 2006. Thomas “TK” Kapinus put together two great hurdle races (as predicted by Coach Motell) and ran 2 big PRs in the 110H and 400H. Connor Little ran a season best of 5:16 in the 1600.
The momentum carried right into the second half of the meet. Pipher Reid won the 400M to help the girls team continue down the path of having the best STAC meet in program history. Alyssa Denton hopped in the open 800 for the first time and ran a sensational race breaking 3 minutes. Carmine Gross and Ty Near put together great 800s as well. Quinn Sirgany was our next podium finisher with her 5th place finish in the 3K. Brendan and Liam doubled back in the 3200 with great races as well.
The success was not limited to the track. In triple jump, Dubbs took 4th place while Gianna captured her second title of the day. In the process, Gianna broke Amy Samsel’s 31 year old school record! Alison Dell recorded a PR in long jump while Ethan Vaseleck added a PR in triple jump.
The night ended with an exciting 4x400 under the lights. The girls 4x400 team of Grace, Gianna, Audra, and Pipher finished 2nd and ran the fourth fastest time in school history.
Next Wednesday we will head to Oneonta for the Class Championship. The meet will be at 4PM and cost $6 per spectator.
