The Golden Bear Relays
The Vestal Golden Bears hosted a Mixed Relay for the first time in well over a decade on Friday, May 3. For this athlete-favorite meet, Relays were made up of a combination of boy, girl, boy, girl teams, while the Field Event Relay Teams were made up of a combination boy, girl teams. It has always been one of our most memorable Invites in the past, so this has been a meet we have been looking forward to competing in all season.
In what was the best weather for a meet so far this year, we had seven different Relays make the podium, highlighted by our Distance Medley Team finishing second overall! That team consisted of: Max Harkness (Eighth grade, running the 400 leg), Max’s twin sister Grace Harkness (Eighth grade, running the 800 leg), junior Connor Little (running the 1600 Meter leg), and senior Quinn Sirgany (running the 1200 Meter leg). Our Shot Put Relay also consisted of a brother/sister combination with Lauren and Walker Paske finishing fifth overall (and Walker reaching his PR by almost two feet). Our 4 by 200 Team (junior Kara Condon, sophomore Ethan Austin, and seniors Alaina Gumble and Lucas McPeak) also finished fifth.
This was a great way to relax and just enjoy the fun of a track meet before we get down to business and try to win the Divisional Championship on both the Boys and Girls Teams this Tuesday, at home, on Senior night versus Seton…
