Meet Recap: Marathon Invitational

After a brief hiatus over the past few years, the varsity team joined the modified team returning to the 32nd Annual Marathon Invitational. Traditionally, the Marathon Invitational is one of the biggest invitationals in the state. This is the varsity team’s first time being able to accompany the modified squad to Marathon because it is normally too close to Sectionals. One tradition that held true this year was the the heavy ran that is notorious at Marathon. Alumni who have participated in years past surely have memories of at least one or two years they ran in this meet in the pouring rain. This year was no exception. The day was kicked off by an outstanding meet for the modified team. Sammy Dell won his wave of the invitational and Isiah wood placed third. Throughout the course of the two day event, they finished with the 3rd and 7th fastest times earning both runners First-Team All Star status. They finished 2nd overall as a team in the Large School division. Gabriella Bernardi added a 23rd place finish in the girls race.

Kicking off the varsity races was the varsity boys. The combination of the long wet grass with the already difficult course created challenge slow conditions. Brendan Heaney powered through to lead the boys to a 5th place Division 2 finish. The girls race saw several Forks Harriers take major steps forward. Pipher Reid was in the lead pack and halfway through the race dropped the competition to record another dominant win by almost a minute and a half. Her time is the 46th fastest time ever recorded on the course and fastest in school history. Audra Ackerson had a huge drop in time running the course in 24:07 and finishing 26th in the results. Shaylee Meier, Alaina Gumble, and Gabe Dietzman all contributed solid performances to help the girls team finish 6th. We are on to Norwich Tuesday and Sectionals Saturday next week!
