Class Meet 2021

In this Spring Sports season like non-other, Chenango Forks was put into the Class C2 Meet in Norwich on June 7 against Norwich, Oneonta, Susquehanna Valley, Sidney, Chenango Valley, Harpursville/Afton, Unadilla Valley, Whitney Point, and Greene. The rest of Class C (called C1) were pitted against one another on June 8 in Dryden (that would be Dryden, Elmira Notre Dame, Lansing, Moravia, Newark Valley, Spencer Van-Etten, Thomas Edison, Trumansberg, Tioga, Watkins Glen, and Waverly).

At our Meet in Norwich, we performed admirably. Senior Josh Nickerson in his final Meet of his career finished 8th in the Boys 100 Meter Dash. Freshman Connor Little got on the awards stand, finishing 5th in the 1600 Meter Run. Junior Dubbs Haqq finished fifth and sixth in the Triple and Long Jumps. While senior thrower Ethan Howell finished his impressive season with double fourth place finishes in the Shot and the Discus. Rounding out the scoring, our 4 by 1 Team of Dubbs, Josh, Carmine Gross, and Anthony Schultz took advantage of perfect handoffs and placed an impressive third overall in their event.

The girls ended their season on an unbelievably high note, overall finishing second behind Oneotna in the Meet…

- Eighth grader Alyssa Denton finished sixth in the 400 Meter Hurdles. It was only the second time she ran the event in her brief career.
- Junior Audra Ackerson, coming off an injured foot, finished fifth in the Open 400 Meter Dash.
- Senior Jozlyn Hall finished fourth in the Discus and fourth in the Shot, with her twin sister Jessica finishing fifth in the Shot.
- Our 1600 Meter Relay Team of Alaina Gumble, Audra Ackerson, Alyssa Denton, and Shaylee Meir finished fourth.
- Junior Gianna Lawrence jumped her PR and finished third in the Long Jump.
- Junior Pipher Reid, in her fourth event of the day, finished third in the 3000 Meter Run.
- Our 400 Meter Relay Team finished second (by .02 seconds). That team consisted of Gianna Lawrence, Audra Ackerson, Alaina Gumble, and Alyssa Denton.

And the following girls are 2021 Class Champions:
- Our 3200 Meter Relay Team consisting of sophomores Katherine White and Quinn Sirgany and juniors Audra Ackerson and Pipher Reid. This race was highlighted by Pipher splitting an AMAZING 2:14.5 (a time that if run in the Open 800 would be in contention for winning the Overall State Championship most years).
- Senior Lauren White in the Pole Vault, winning the event in a thrilling “Jump Off.”
- Quinn Sirgany in the 3000 Meter Run.
- Gianna Lawrence in the 100 Meter Hurdles and the Triple Jump. This was CF’s first ever Class Championship in the 100 Meter Hurdles in our school’s history. This also is the first time any male or female CF track athlete has ever won a Class Championship on the track and in the field on the same day.
- Pipher Reid in the 1500 Meter Run and the 800 Meter Run.

Those two victories make Quinn a Three-Time Class Champion, something only six other girls have accomplished in the history of the Track Program at Forks. And with her three victories, Pipher Reid ties Stephanie Bush for the most ever Class Championships in School History with seven.

When the Class C1 and the Class C2 Meets were combined together, our Girls finished SECOND Overall in the entire Class. This is an absolutely impressive accomplishment, and with only graduating three girls that scored in the Meet, we are hoping to make a run at the Overall Class Championship next year!

And with their placements at this Meet the following girls will be able to compete at the Sectional Showcase next weekend:
- Lauren White in the Pole Vault
- Quinn Sirgany in the Steeplechase
- Pipher Reid in the 800 Meter Run and the 1500 Meter Run
- Gianna Lawrence in the Triple Jump
- And our 400 Meter Relay Team of Alania Gumble, Alyssa Denton, Audra Ackerson, and Gianna Lawrence.
