Tony Fragomeni

(Class of 1968)

Graduated:
School Record Shot Put

Tony and his twin brother Frank were football standouts that did not come out for the Track team until their junior year.  Despite his limited experience, Tony used his immense strength and surprisingly light feet to become runner up in Shot Put at his first Class Meet, throwing 45 feet 11 inches.  The next year Tony learned technique so quickly that he was able to repeat as runner up at the Class Meet, throwing the shot an unbelievable 48 feet 10 inches.  It was just unlucky timing and unluckier geography that had Dick Crandall from Sidney also in the Class Meet each year.  Crandall ended up finishing second in the entire State in Shot Put those two consecutive seasons.

Fragomeni's throw set our School Record that stood for 29 years and is still ranked fourth All Time.  After high school Tony got a full scholarship to Idaho State University where he started for three years as a guard on the offensive line and blocked for All American and eventually College Football Hall of Famer (and New York Jet) Eddie Bell.  When his playing career was finished, Tony became an assistant football coach at his alma mater before moving on to Rhode Island University.
