Mark Garcia's Hall of Fame Credentials cannot be questioned. One of the fastest sprinters in school history, he was All Conference in the 100 Yard Dash in both his junior and senior seasons, being clocked at 10.1 seconds (which is the equivalent of running 11.05 seconds in the 100 Meter Dash). Mark was also a two time Class Champion in the event and qualified for the State Meet his senior year. If that were not enough, Garcia was two time All Conference and two time Class Champion in the 180 Yard Low Hurdles, and qualified for the State Meet in that event his senior year as well. In doing so he became the second Forks trackman to qualify for the State Meet in two different events in the same season (something still only three individuals have ever done in our history).
Also a star football player and two time All League wrestler (Runner Up in the Section at 135 pounds), Garcia was quite obviously an amazing athlete. If more proof was needed, his third event in Track was the Long Jump. Although not really concentrating on the event, Mark leaped 19 feet 10 and ¼ inch, which at the time was our second farthest jump ever, and fifty years later, is still our sixth farthest jump!
