Class C/D Sectionals @ SUNY Cortland
The Class C/D Sectional Championship Meet was held at SUNY Cortland last night. This is the most important invite of the season as placing in the Top Six in any event at this meet guarantees advancement to the State Qualifier next month at Cornell University. THIRTY-ONE schools sent athletes to compete for that opportunity and once again our Blue Devils had outstanding performances.
Senior Kara Condon and Junior Ethan Austin each broke their own School Records in the 55 Meter Dash and earned a nod for Qualifiers, finishing fourth and second respectfully. Ethan, already the first Forks Trackman to ever break the 7.00 second mark in the event, absolutely obliterated that benchmark with a time of 6.79! And for Kara, this is now back-to-back weeks of her breaking her own School Record!
Eighth Grader Ceci Kasmarcik also is headed to the State Qualifier as she finished 5th in the 600 Meter Run with a time of 1:52.66. That run now places her 4th All Time in School History and was only the third time she has ever competed in the event!
Ceci also ran the lead leg of our 4 by 400 Meter Relay Team, followed by Juniors Riley Spalik and Alyssa Denton, and Eighth Grader Clara Little. Competing for the first time all season in the event, and not hearing the starter’s pistol until 10:30 PM, the team finished fourth and earned their way to State Quals! Their time of 4:45.72 is third fastest in the history of the school…
The night also featured five other Forkers earning their PRs: Senior Caleb Hulupke and freshman Fiona Brennon in the 1000 Meter Run, junior Alex McMullen in the 600 Meter Run, senior Connor Little in the 1600 Meter Run, and freshman Camden Sturdevant in the Triple Jump. For Connor, he came within .34 seconds of breaking our School Record in the event, set in 2008! And for Camden, he placed in the Top Ten at the Meet and is now 7th All Time in School History!
