The Rotary Relays
The Nimmonsburg Rotary International Club partnered with Chenango Forks Track and Field to host the second annual Rotary Relays at Blue Devils Stadium on April 6. Twelve Teams (Vestal, Binghamton, Union Endicott, Tully, Athens (PA), Oxford, Chenango Valley, Norwich, Susquehanna Valley, and Sherburne-Earlville) attended with Pinkies BarBQ out of Binghamton handling the food concessions.
Our girls’ team won the overall championship scoring 65 points, beating second place Binghamton’s 63, and third place Tully’s 54. This was our first Invite Championship for our Girls’ Team in twenty-six years. They were led by our first place finishing 3200 Meter Relay Team of Freshmen Mari Pourby and Delaney Wood, and sophomores Kendall Little and Kayleigh Lockwood. Our Discus Relay team consisting of sophomores Lauren Paske and Ayla Lawrence also placed first overall.
Our 400 Meter Relay Team (Kara Condon, Aliana Gumble, Alyssa Denton, and Grace Harkness), our 6400 Meter Realy Team (Quinn Sirgany, Kathryn White, D.Wood, and Lockwood) and our Girls High Jump Relay (Pourby and Denton) were able to secure second place ribbons, while our Distance Medley Relay Team of Harkness, Sirgany, Pourby, and Little) finished third.
The absolutely amazing thing about this victory was that every single CF Girl that participated in the Invite was able to score a point! Mackenzie Curtis, Crystianna Talbot, Angelique Talbot, Brooke Johnson, Julianna Dietzman, and Gabe Dietzman all were able to secure this Championship with their performances… That is the very definition of a Team Championship!!
Our Boys’ finished sixth overall, earning victories in the High Jump Relay (sophomore Ethan Vaseleck and freshman Mason Millard) and the 4 by Mile Team consisting of juniors Conway Mallory and Connor Little, and seniors Ty Near and Liam Wood. Third place ribbons were secured by our 400 Meter Relay Team (freshman Chris Moppert, sophomores Nate Raab and Ethan Austin, and senior Lucas McPeak) and our 1600 Meter Relay Team (Vaseleck, senior Dominick Panko, and juniors Thomas Hillis and Jacob Zajdel).
Overall it was an amazing night of Track and Field. Five Stadium Records were set or tied. Both the Boys and Girls 100 Meter Dash records (Jacy Wilson and Amiah Brissett of Binghamton) and then the Girls 4 by 100 and the Girls 4 by 200 (both by Binghamton), along with the Boys 4 by 800 (Vestal) were all Stadium Records that fell.
A special shout out to the Chenango Forks Track Booster Club and all of the volunteer parents, modified athletes, National Honor Society members, and InterActors that helped to make the meet run so smoothly.
